Slotegrator Launches PWA Functionality for Casino Apps

Slotegrator has integrated a Progressive Web App (PWA) function into its platform, enabling casino operators to provide installable apps without needing an app store, potentially speeding up launches by up to 2 months.
Online gambling providers face the challenge of reaching and retaining customers through mobile channels. Native apps are powerful tools for this, but their distribution is often hindered by strict policies and lengthy approval processes in app stores. Slotegrator, a well-known developer of iGaming business solutions, has now presented an innovative answer to this dilemma. The company now offers a Progressive Web App (PWA) functionality for its platform.
This innovation aims to enable operators to offer their players an app-like experience without having to overcome the hurdles of traditional app stores like the Apple App Store or Google Play. The PWA function is part of Slotegrator's "Casino Builder" module, which was introduced in May 2022 as part of a comprehensive platform update. Existing customers are already using the new technology.
Numbers and facts
The main problem for iGaming brands lies in the restrictive policies of app stores, long review processes, geographical restrictions, and the constant threat of app removal. Slotegrator addresses these difficulties with its PWA functionality. Players can install the casino app directly from their browser. The app then loads quickly from the user's home screen and supports push notifications, significantly improving player engagement and retention.
Olga Ivanchik, COO at Slotegrator, emphasized the importance of mobile channels: > "Mobile is still the leading channel for user acquisition and retention; however, it’s difficult to distribute native apps in igaming. Our new PWA feature gives operators an alternative that will be familiar to their players, while eliminating the complications related to conventional app stores. Operators can launch quickly, retain full control over updates, and ensure a perfect mobile gaming experience for any market." - Olga Ivanchik, COO at Slotegrator
Within the next two months, operators will also be able to determine when the PWA install bar will be visible to the player. This could, for example, happen immediately after the first deposit to foster long-term player retention. Operators can also set the frequency of the install offer – daily, weekly, or just once.
According to Slotegrator, the installation widgets are highly flexible and customizable with branded icons, messages, and backgrounds. Operators can limit the visibility of their installation campaigns to specific devices such as desktops, mobile phones, Android, or iOS devices. When players install the PWA, operators can connect it to push notification services to re-engage players even when the application is not actively open.
Another important feature is compatibility with mirror domains. This is particularly relevant for regulated markets where operators have to change domains due to licensing or regulatory requirements. Players who have already installed the PWA will be able to continue using it without having to reinstall it. Unlike native applications, PWAs do not require app store approval, eliminating delays and the risk of removal from the market. Updates can be distributed instantly to all users.
Background
The integration of Progressive Web Apps into Slotegrator's platform is part of the company's broader strategy to continuously improve its solutions. As early as May 2022, a new platform was introduced, utilizing a modern microservice architecture. This innovation was intended to optimize speed, security, and stability, and to accelerate the launch process for operators. A typical launch is said to take no longer than a few days.
The new platform offers operators expanded integration possibilities with various systems, including game content developers, payment services, and mobile applications. A user-friendly back office and an intuitive dashboard are designed to make the onboarding process as comfortable as possible for operators. The adaptability of the back office for tablets and smartphones enables project management from anywhere in the world.
In addition to the aforementioned Casino Builder module and the new PWA function, the platform also offers a Business Intelligence (BI) module. This module allows operators to analyze key metrics such as Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR), unique players, margins, and the number of active users over various periods (day, week, month, year). By comparing performance, operators can make informed strategic decisions. A separate KYC (Know Your Customer) module is also designed to make the player verification process smoother.
Why it matters for German players
For German players, the development of technologies like PWAs theoretically means greater flexibility in accessing online casinos. In practice, however, all legal offerings in Germany must strictly adhere to the requirements of the GlüStV 2021 (Glücksspielstaatsvertrag 2021). This particularly concerns the GGL whitelist, which lists all licensed providers. German players should only play at casinos that hold a valid German license from the Joint Gaming Authority of the Federal States (GGL).
Regardless of the technology, be it PWA or native app, strict player protection measures apply in Germany. These include a stake limit of 1 euro per spin on slot machines and a monthly deposit limit of 1,000 euros, which is controlled via the central monitoring system LUGAS. Apps that cannot or will not comply with these rules are not permitted in Germany. While the technical possibilities of PWAs might offer more convenience for players in other countries, in Germany, regulation and player protection are paramount. Offers on websites with MGA or Curacao licenses are not legal for German players.
What it means for GGL-licensed casinos
For GGL-licensed casinos, Slotegrator's PWA technology could represent an interesting option to simplify player access and strengthen customer loyalty without going through the complex approval processes of app stores. This could significantly reduce the time to market for a mobile app-like solution. Operators would have more control over updates and could react quickly to regulatory changes or market demands.
However, these casinos must ensure that any use of a PWA fully complies with German gambling laws. This means that all features such as stake and deposit limits, the connection to LUGAS, and compliance with the self-exclusion system OASIS must also be guaranteed via the PWA. The flexible design of installation bars and push notifications must also align with the strict advertising regulations in Germany. Technology is merely a tool; compliance with the law remains the top priority.
